The Scoop...

The consulting pioneer

Some people travel after college or work until they find their calling. Others, like Edwin Booz, start management consulting firms. Booz, who founded his eponymous firm shortly after graduating from Northwestern University in 1914, probably had no idea that at the dawn of the next century, his firm would be among the most prestigious consulting firms in the world. From the beginning, Booz's consulting firm, one of the first such companies, worked closely with corporations in the Midwest and other parts of the United States - Montgomery Ward, General Mills and the American National Red Cross. Booz was joined by partners Allen and Hamilton during the 1930s. In 1940 the firm worked with the U.S. Government in preparation for World War II. Over the past few years, Booz Allen Hamilton has expanded its service lines - and grown to more than 10,000 staff in over 100 offices worldwide - to include e-business, venture consulting and incubators. Booz Allen garners 80 percent of its revenues from previous clients - a strong track record of satisfaction.

In May 1999, Booz Allen expanded its global footprint with the acquisition of Carta Corporate Advisors AB, the leading consulting firm in Scandinavia. With offices in Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark, Carta serves major corporations and government bodies across the Nordic region. Carta's capabilities - strategy and organization, corporate finance and strategic communications - are being integrated with Booz Allen's to further strengthen the firm's market reach and delivery capability in Europe.
